M2PI

Unlocking Innovation Through Advanced Mathematical Thinking.

Math to Power Industry (M2PI) bridges advanced mathematical research and real-world industry challenges by connecting organizations with teams of highly trained graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.

Through focused, short-term collaborations, M2PI applies mathematical science, data analysis, and computational modelling to complex problems facing industry, government, and the non-profit sector. Partners gain fresh, independent insight and exploratory solutions, while trainees develop the experience and professional skills needed to succeed beyond academia.

How M2PI Works

Organizations submit a real-world challenge that could benefit from quantitative or analytical insight. Selected trainees participate full-time in a two- to three-week intensive program, combining targeted professional preparation with collaborative project work alongside academic experts and industry mentors.

During the program’s two-week partner engagement period, teams work directly with organizations to refine project objectives, explore mathematical approaches, and deliver practical outcomes tailored to the partner’s needs.

There is no cost for organizations to participate. Partners simply provide a problem statement and designate a mentor to engage with the project team. M2PI is made possible through grants and sponsor support.

Proven Impact Across Sectors

Since launching in 2020, M2PI has completed more than 40 collaborative projects spanning a wide range of sectors, including:

  • Finance

  • Manufacturing

  • Energy and Utilities

  • Election Analytics

  • Urban Planning

  • Engineering

  • Healthcare

These collaborations demonstrate how advanced mathematics can accelerate innovation, support decision-making, and unlock new opportunities across industries.

Preparing Mathematical Talent for Industry

M2PI prepares emerging mathematical scientists to operate effectively in industry environments through training in modern computational tools, collaborative problem-solving, communication, and project delivery.

Working in interdisciplinary teams, trainees engage directly with partner organizations to analyze challenges, develop models and analytical approaches, and present clear, actionable findings.

Sponsorship and Engagement Opportunities

Organizations can further support M2PI through sponsorship opportunities that help expand the program’s reach while strengthening connections to a growing pipeline of highly skilled mathematical talent — with or without submitting a project challenge.
