On behalf of the University of Alberta, the Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences invited the mathematical graduate student community to the 2006 Young Researchers Conference for Mathematical and Statistical Sciences.
The conference was open to all graduate (including post-docs, research assistants, etc.) and mature undergraduate students. The conference aimed to provide an opportunity for academic collaboration amongst young researchers. By giving graduate students a forum to discuss their work, this conference promotes progress through discourse.
Participants were encouraged, but not required, to give a twenty minute talk (plus a five minute question period) on a topic related to mathematics or statistics. Twenty-four of eighty-four participants gave talks. The final schedule of talks (and abstracts) is available as a PDF: YRC06.pdf.
Gerda de Vries gave a keynote address at the banquet on Saturday evening. Her abstract is available as a PDF: Success in Graduate School.
