PIMS Voyageur Colloquium
- Date: 11/05/2010
Speaker(s):
Martin Bendersky, City University of New York (CUNY), Hunter College Campus
Location:
University of Calgary
Topic:
A Survey of Toric Geometry
Description:
Since the work of Davis and Januszkiewicz topological methods have been applicable to studying toric spaces (much loved by algebraic geometers). These ideas combine the geometry of manifolds with torus actions and combinatorics. I will talk about recent work with Tony Barhi, Fred Cohen and Sam Gitler on the structure of toric spaces and their generalizations. There will be plenty of examples.
