PIMS Appoints Prof. Raymond Spiteri as New Co-Director, Careers
The Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Prof. Raymond Spiteri as its new Co-Director, Careers.
Professor Spiteri completed his graduate studies at the University of British Columbia and held positions at Acadia University and Dalhousie University before joining the University of Saskatchewan, where he is a professor of Computer Science and former Director of the Centre for High-Performance Computing. His research focuses on numerical analysis, scientific computing, and high-performance computing and has spurred extensive collaborations across academia and industry.
As Co-Director, Careers, Prof. Spiteri will be responsible for career and industry engagement initiatives at PIMS, strengthening our partnerships in academia, government, and industry, and developing professional development opportunities for our postdoctoral fellows. In addition, he will work closely with the PIMS Director and Co-Director, Programs to contribute to PIMS’ strategic planning, providing insight and helping to develop industrial research programs throughout the PIMS network.
Professor Spiteri is widely recognized for his leadership and impact in mathematics, scientific computing, and high-performance computing, both in Canada and internationally. His contributions have been recognized with several major honours, including the CAIMS-Fields Industrial Mathematics Prize, a Mitacs Award for Exceptional Leadership, and the 2024 Distinguished Scholar Award from the University of Saskatchewan. He also served as Group Chair for NSERC Discovery Grants Program Evaluation Group 1508 (Mathematics & Statistics) from 2021 to 2025.
