3rd Alberta Graduate Mathematics and Statistics Conference (AGMSC)

The 3rd Annual Alberta Graduate Mathematics & Statistics Conference (AGMSC) was held July 3-5, 2024 at the University of Alberta. 

Graduate students studying the mathematical sciences across Alberta were invited to attend the conference where they presented their research, participated in professionalizing workshops, and enjoyed social activities. Some of our highlights from this year include: 

• 19 Graduate students presenting their research on topics ranging from mathematical biology and variable selection in statistics, to Category theory and Topology.
• An industry panel focused on jobs for mathematicians & statisticians after graduation with Fareeza Khurshed, Robert Simpson, and Dr. Vahktang Poutkaradze.
• An EDI workshop facilitated by Dr. Tara McGee, Associate Dean for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at the College of Natural and Applied Sciences at the University of Alberta.
• An evening group trip to Made by Marcus, a local ice cream store! 

Due to the generous support of our sponsors, we were able to keep the conference financially accessible for all students. The cost of attending the conference was only a $30 refundable upon attendance registration deposit. 

We were very pleased with the 3rd iteration of this conference and we look forward to hosting the 4th iteration in 2025!
