Since 2005 the graduate students of the Department of Statistics & Actuarial Science get together with their peers from UBC to organize two joint workshops every year.
The workshop is organized by the students for the students. The objective is to give students the opportunity to present their work to other students in a less formal environment and to gain experience in their oral and presentation skills.
Six students (3 from SFU and 3 from UBC) volunteer to give 30 minute presentations. To complete the program, 2 faculty members (one from each university) is invited to give a 1 hour non-technical talk on a matter that greatly impacts graduate one of students' academic life and which is usually not covered on any regular class.
