Given the vast amount of fieldwork data that exists for tropical plant and tree communities, it is of foremost interest to develop a mechanistic model to describe plant population dynamics. Since tropical forests not only have a large number of species but also have very little seasonality, a stage-based, deterministic model has not been attempted prior to this. We set up a three-stage integro-difference model to study such an environment taking into account competitive terms for competition between the most competitive trees.
