PIMS/WMAX Postdoctoral Colloquium: Vianney Combet (PIMS-UBC)

This talk will focus on one of thenumerous aspects of nonlinear dispersive equations brilliantly introduced by Ian during a previous talk: solitons.  i will try first to explain how they arise in the study of such equations, then how the power in thenonlinearity can change the answer to one of the most important questions solitons: are they stable or not?  note that no particular knowledge on PDes will be needed to follow this talk.
