Thematic Year
PIMS Thematic Year on Mathematics and Articial Intelligence
PIMS has designated 2026–2027 as the PIMS Thematic Year on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence.
The PIMS mandate is to promote excellent research and applications of the mathematical sciences, to facilitate the training of highly qualified personnel, to create an equitable, diverse and inclusive community in the mathematical sciences, to enrich public awareness of and education in mathematics and to create partnerships with similar organizations around the world.
In this talk I will define a category internal to complex manifolds which I call holomorphic Lie categories. Given a holomorphic Lie category, there is a category of complex sheaves associated to it which can be used to construct various algebras. I...
The cohomology groups of tautological bundles on Grassmannians are described by the celebrated Borel-Weil-Bott theorem. Quot schemes on the projective line provide a natural generalization of Grassmannians: they parametrize rank r quotients of a...
Formal schemes were introduced by Grothendieck to geometrize the idea of taking the completion of a ring which corresponds to taking “formal” analytic / power series functions around a closed subset. They find a lot of use in deformation theory in...
Abstract: The cycle double cover conjecture asserts that every bridgeless graph admits a collection of cycles in which each edge occurs exactly twice. In this talk we present the conjecture’s historical roots and proof developed with OpenAI. We begin...
We propose a general framework for non-interactive locally differentially private (LDP) learning of structured univariate distributions that can be approximated by piece-wise polynomials. This gives the first sample-efficient LDP learners for several...
Abstract: We develop an ensemble inference framework for valid post-fusion inference in the context of supervised homogeneity pursuit (SHoP). This methodology allows to fuse numerous micro-level weak signals into a few macro-level strong predictors...
For 30 years, PIMS has invested not only in mathematical research, but also in the people who will carry it forward. Supporting emerging researchers has been central to the PIMS mission since its...
Congratulations to UBC mathematician and longtime member of the PIMS community Joshua Zahl, who, together with Pablo Shmerkin, Tuomas Orponen and Hong Wang, has received a 2026 Clay Research Award for...
Congratulations to UBC mathematician Pablo Shmerkin, who, together with Joshua Zahl, Tuomas Orponen and Hong Wang, has received a 2026 Clay Research Award for work resolving two major problems in...
