The University of Calgary Junior High Data Science Camp is a FREE two-day camp designed for students in grades 7 to 9. This camp is a fun and engaging introduction to the exciting world of data science!
Details
Over the course of this camp, students will experience:
- Hands-on activities with real data using Python and R
- Fun, game-based learning experiences related to the Data Science field
- Data visualization, simulations, and problem-solving challenges
- Guest speakers from industry and student leaders from the Data Science & Machine Learning Club
- Opportunities to explore how math, coding, and data come together in the real world
Camp Details:
Dates: July 14–15, 2025
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Location: Department of Mathematics and Statistics, University of Calgary
Cost: Free of charge
Eligibility: Open to all students in Grades 7–9. We encourage applications from Indigenous students, visible minorities, students with disabilities, and others historically underrepresented in STEM fields.
The goal of this camp is to make data science accessible, exciting, and welcoming to all students, regardless of background.
Lunch will be provided both days, and all camp activities will be supervised by University of Calgary instructors and graduate students.
Additional Information
Space is limited to 30 students. If you are selected to attend the camp, we’ll contact you on June 18th with a registration link. If the camp reaches capacity, we will notify you as well.
This camp is supported by funding from PIMS and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Calgary.
