UBC DG-MP-PDE Seminar: Ben Weinkove
Topic
The Insulated Conductivity Problem
Speakers
Details
Abstract: The insulated conductivity problem is a question about the strength of the electric field between two almost-touching insulators. Mathematically it is a question about harmonic functions which is extremely simple to state, yet the optimal bounds in higher dimensions are completely unknown. I will give some background on this problem, describe some known results, and then show how a maximum principle argument gives new bounds in dimensions 4 and higher.
