The annual Alberta Mathematics Dialogue (AMD) is the largest annual meeting for professional mathematicians and mathematics educators in Alberta. Over two days, delegates will discuss current research, collaborate on open problems, exchange ideas on post-secondary education and share educational resources. The research component of the conference spans the entire width of mathematical exploration, from senior plenary talks, to expert minisymposia, to graduate student talks and a special session for undergraduate research. Educational topics revolve around online teaching, remote grading, modern curricula in mathematics, as well as equity, diversity, and indigenization of mathematics. In addition, we invite leading experts in research and education from outside the province to learn about new approaches and new research ideas.

The meeting will provide an opportunity to meet with colleagues from many of Alberta’s postsecondary institutions and beyond. Topics of discussion include research, teaching, technology, funding, curriculum, and other ideas of common interest to post-secondary mathematics departments in Alberta and beyond.

The conference will feature four plenary talks (fifty minutes) and about thirty shorter talks (twenty to thirty minutes) organized into sessions.

Plenary Speakers

  • Jane Heffernan, CRC Mathematical Biology, York University, and current President of the Society for Mathematical Biology.
  • Lauren DeDieu, University of Calgary, PIMS Education Prize Winner 2023.
  • Jochen Kuttler, Associate Professor, University of Alberta.
  • Tracey Balehowsky, Assistant Professor, University of Calgary.

We invite attendees to contribute, if they wish, mathematical talks of any kind. We particularly encourage talks in the areas of Linear Algebra, Data Science, Analysis, Algebra & Number Theory, Partial differential equations, Operator theory, Mathematical Biology, Financial Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Statistics.
