PIMS - UVic Math Colloquium: Mark Lewis
Topic
Challenges and Opportunities in Mathematical Biology
Speakers
Details
Mathematical biology presents very many exciting scientific challenges. In this talk I will focus on five: understanding the process of biological pattern formation, analysing the dynamics of spreading populations, assessing the emergence of infectious disease, predicting the impact of environmental change on biological populations and modelling biological movement. I will highlight recent discoveries and provide perspectives on future research. I will also outline ideas and priorities for the position of the Kennedy Chair in Mathematical Biology.
