Deputy Director of the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences

The position of Deputy Director of the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS) will become vacant on July 1, 2016, when the current Deputy Director, Jim Colliander, will become the Director. PIMS intends to appoint an Interim Deputy Director for the period July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017 and now invites expressions of interest from faculty members at PIMS universities.

 

PIMS expects that its Deputy Director will have a strong record of scientific accomplishment, as well as demonstrate strong evidence of leadership and excellent communication and organizational skills.

 

Responsibilities:
The Deputy Director of PIMS will act as a site director as well as assisting the PIMS Director in several aspects of her/his tasks, in particular: the development and implementation of scientific policies; the adjudication process for educational, industrial and scientific programs; the organization of institute activities; the supervision of staff; and the preparation of grant proposals. The Deputy Director will have considerable autonomy and will serve ex-officio as a member of the PIMS Scientific Review Panel and the PIMS Board of Directors.
