David Leeming to receive BCCAT Franklin Gelin Lifetime Achievement Award

  • Date: 10/23/2015
Dr. David Leeming, PIMS’ Education Coordinator at the University of Victoria, has been chosen to receive the BC Council on Admissions and Transfer’s (BCCAT) Franklin Gelin Lifetime Achievement Award. This award, which is not awarded annually, but in fact only when a truly outstanding nomination has been received, recognizes an individual whose long-term contributions and far-reaching impacts have become apparent over a career of commitment to advancing transfer and articulation in the BC post-secondary system.

Leeming has served as the UVic PIMS Education Coordinator for  nearly 15 years and has been devoted to education outreach long before this position was created. He is a strong promoter of PIMS’ Math Manias, organizing multiple events on Vancouver Island each year. He served as editor of PIMS’ Pi in the Sky magazine between 2004 and 2010, regularly participates in First Nations Math Education Workshops at BIRS and has assisted with workshops for both students and teachers around BC. In 2005, David received the 2005 PIMS Education Prize in recognition of his many contributions.

We congratulate him for this, another testament to the tremendous impact of his work, tireless energy and determination. The award will be given on November 5, 2015 at the annual BCCAT award ceremony, which will be held this year at the Radisson Airport Hotel in Richmond, BC.
