Math Mania visited ŁÁU,WELNEW Tribal School on February 10

Several Co-op students from UVic Science Outreach
and PIMS UVic Education Coordinator David Leeming visited the
grade 5-6 class at the ŁÁU,WELNEW Tribal School on the TSARTLIP
Reserve at Brentwood Bay to present selected Math Mania activities.
The eighteen kids were totally engaged for ninety minutes playing games such as ‘The Penny Game’, 3-dimensional Tic-Tac-Toe and Rhombo, as well as the
aboriginal game of Lahal (also known as ‘the bones game’).
Teachers, children and volunteers all agreed that this was a very good
start to STEM outreach in the local aboriginal schools.
