Christopher Hoffman Appointed PIMS University of Washington Site Director

The Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences is pleased to announce that Dr. Christopher Hoffman has been appointed site director at the University of Washington. His 3-year term will begin on July 1, 2014.

Dr. Hoffman is Professor of Mathematics at the University of Washington. He obtained his PhD from Stanford University in 1996. In 2008, he was awarded the prestigious AMS Centennial Fellowship and the University of Washington Excellence Award in 2000.

His research spans a number of areas, including: random walks, percolation, random growth processes, mixing times of Markov chains, phase transitions and ergodic theory.

PIMS thanks Dr. Peter Hoff, the outgoing PIMS site director at the University of Washington, for the valuable contributions he made during his term.
