Dr. Antony Ware, Mathematics & Statistics, University of Calgary

Description:

The use -- and misuse -- of financial derivatives has a long history, and the current crisis is not the only one in which they have been implicated. In this talk I'll tell some of these stories, and give an introduction to the mathematical ideas that over the last few decades have encouraged the explosive growth in the use of these `financial weapons of mass destruction' (as Warren Buffet famously called them).
