Management of sea lice epizootics in farmed and wild salmon
I am studying the transmission of parasites, specifically sea lice, from farmed salmon to wild salmon on the west coast of British Columbia. This system has been under scrutiny because of possible declines in wild salmon populations due to the spill-over of parasites from salmon farms. As a result, there have been
numerous changes in the management of salmon farms in an effort to reduce potential negative effects on wild salmon. I am interested in modelling the transmission dynamics of sea lice among farmed and wild salmon, including the effects of management intervention on salmon farms. My goal is to improve understanding of this host-parasite system in order to ensure the most effective management of salmon farms and conservation of wild salmon.
