Jonathan Martin

Jonathan Martin is interested in spatial spread problems in biology. In particular, together with his Ph.D. advisor Professor Thomas Hillen, Jonathan studies spatial models for forest fire spread in the form of partial -  and integro - differential equations. The goal of this research is to better understand forest fire spread in situations far from equilibrium, such as the phenomenon of spotting in crown fires, which describes the generation of new fires downwind from an existing forest fire by wind-transported firebrands.
