My current research focuses on sea lice, marine parasites, and their salmonid hosts. I am working on theoretical models for host-parasite dynamics of salmon and their sea lice parasites. These models can shed light on the dynamics of a natural host-parasite association, and also help to understand how dynamics change in the presence of salmon farms. Building on these ecological models, I am also addressing rapid evolution of sea lice, in particular, the dynamics of chemical resistance emergence on salmon farms. Together, these models will illuminate tradeoffs and synergies among conservation, resistance management, environmental impact and farm production and thus could inform farm management strategies.
