Location
Simon Fraser University is situated on top of a 300m hill in Burnaby, BC (part of Greater Vancouver), overlooking a fjord called the Burrard Inlet. It is a very compact campus surrounded by parkland, with accommodation and lecture halls all within easy walking distance. A selection of restaurants and shops is available on campus and there are easy and frequent bus connections to the city centre. Travel reimbursement formIf you misplaced the travel reimbursement form that was mailed to you, you can download the form here. How to get thereYou can find directions here. If you are driving, you can use the Google Maps link below to coerce driving instructions out of Google. If you are driving from Seattle, you are almost always better off taking the Lynden/Aldergrove Border crossing rather than Peace Arch, due to border line-ups. If you are arriving at the airport during the daytime, public transportation is an option. See Translink and search from 52107 to 52806. These are the stop numbers of YVR and SFU respectively, but this seems to be the only reliable way of entering your endpoints. You will end up taking lines 424, 98 and 135. Bus drivers do not give change, so get some Canadian coins first. Alternatively, you can take a taxi. This will cost about CA$60 or more, depending on traffic. Relevant places on campus:
You can download this campus map, which has all relevant points on campus highlighted. The lectures and computer labs will take place at the IRMACS Centre. If you enter the building through the Applied Science Entrance, it's at your left, up one spiral staircase. A map is available. Participants will be housed in SFU Guest Accommodations. Check-in time is normally from 3:00pm Please arrange with Guest Services if you plan to arrive before that time. Rooms have wired internet access, but no wireless. Be sure to pack a cable if you intend to use your laptop in your room If you arrive early afternoon on Friday August 8, you may want to join us at the IRMACS centre. We will have a lab available there where you can already meet the other participants and test some of the software we will be working with. |
