I am working on modelling calcium signaling and electrophysiological activities of hormone secreting cells (such as pituitary gonadotrophs) and neurons (such as neurons in the hypothalamus that secret gonadotroping-releasing hormone, i.e. GnRH neurons). The study of endocrine cells/neurons is regarded as part of neuroendocrinology. Neuroendocrinology is a rapidly developing area of research with great clinical and pharmacological potentials. It is really a promising area of research with many unanswered questions. Now the experiments on cellular level have revealed various complex dynamic patterns in these neuroendocrine cells, such as oscillations, bursting, waves and synchronizations. Those phenomena are highly nonlinear and mathematical models have been shown an extremely useful tool in analyzing and explaining these observations.
