Multi-Mode Wave Propagation in Anisotropic Media

  • Date: 12/18/2008
Speaker(s):
Dr. Robert Ferguson, Geoscience, University of Calgary
Location:

Calgary Place Tower (Shell)

Topic:

Phaseshift operators are presented that enable planewave propagation through media that are transversely anisotropic. These operators propagate planewaves in all three spatial dimensions for all three components, and they are developed to reside at the centre of seismic imaging and modelling by the Rayleigh-Sommerfled approach. Numerical examples are provided for P-waves, SH-waves, and SV-waves in vertical transverse-isotropy, dipping transverse-isotropy, and horizontal isotropy (vertical fractures) are provided.

Schedule:

12:00-1:00pm
Calgary Place Tower I (330 5th Avenue SW), Room 1116/1118.

Everyone is welcome to attend. A light lunch will be provided.
